MIST Departments
Department of Science and Business Management (SBM)

The Science and Business Management (SBM) department formally known as General Studies (GS) Department offers to all other departments a wide spectrum of Science modules in Mathematics, Entrepreneurship and Development, Physical Sciences and Communication Skills. All modules are conducted in a semester system. Apart from providing support to other departments The SBM department also offers the following programs:

  • Ordinary Diploma in Business Administration
  • Bachelor of Business Administration

Objectives of Science and Business Management Department
Science and Business Management department conducts modules of general nature which cuts across all technical departments. The Intention of the department is to train students to think effectively about the interconnection of Science, technology and management. Emphasis is laid on learning the principles of problem solving leading to a technical solution, addressing communication in a variety of settings, critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills.

Department of Research, Consultancy and Publication

The Research, Consultancy and Publications Unit at MIST is responsible for coordination and administration of all Research, Consultancy and publications activities.

General Objectives of Research and Consultancy unit include:
  • To promote and Coordinate Research and Consultancy activities at the Institute
  • To motivate members of MIST to develop and instill confidence of conducting Research and Consultancy activities to MIST staff.
  • Facilitate the development of job creation culture (Entrepreneurship education development).
  • Include Scientific thinking so as to promote the development of critical and logical habit of thinking and organization of ideas Generate funds from Research and Consultancy activities.

Department of MIST Consultancy Bureau (MCB)

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The department offers Ordinary Diploma in Engineering (NTA Level 4-6), Bachelors Degree in Engineering (B.Eng.) and Advanced Diploma in Engineering (ADE). The ADE program is phasing out and is replaced by the B.Eng programme. Both programmes are of three years duration.

Department of Computer Engineering

The department of Computer Engineering was founded in 1994 and offers Ordinary Diploma programmes in Computer Engineering NTA Level 4 to 6. Apart from offering computer professional courses, the department provides support to other academic department in teaching computer applications and computer aided design modules.

Department of Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering department offers three Academic programmes (Ordinary Diploma in Engineering (ODE), Bachelor of Engineering in electrical and Advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering. Student admitted in ODE for three years may exit in their first year and be awarded Basic Technician Certificate (NTA level 4). Those who exit in the second year are awarded Technician Certificate (NTA level 5. At the completion of three years study a student is awarded an Ordinary Diploma in electrical Engineering.

The Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering programme is a three year programme and candidates are awarded an Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering after successive completion of the course which takes a duration of three years. MIST is phasing out the advanced diploma study programme and this has been replaced by the Bachelor of Engineering programme started in December 2008. Currently the department offers the following programmes:-
  • Basic Technician in Electrical Engineering – NTA Level 4 (1 year programme).
  • Technician in Electrical Engineering - NTA Level 5 (1 year programme).

Department of Archtecture

The department of Architecture was founded in 1990 as an affiliate department of Civil Engineering Department with bias in Urban and Planning. Currently the department offers the following programmes :-

  1. Basic Technician in Architecture – NTA Level 4 (1 year programme).
  2. Technician in Architecture - NTA Level 5 (1 year programme).
  3. Ordinary Diploma in Architecture –NTA Level 6 (1 year programme).
  4. Bridging Course of Technology in Architecture. (1 year programme).
  5. Higher Diploma in Architecture Technology –NTA level 7 (2 years programme).
  6. Bachelor Degree of Technology in Architecture NTA Level 8 (1 year programme).

  • Architecture and Design.

Department of Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering department offers three Academic programmes (Ordinary Diploma in Engineering (ODE), Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Advanced diploma in Civil Engineering.

The Industrial Liason Office

The office of the Industrial Liaison Officer (ILO) is under the Director of Studies. The office is responsible for coordinating Students‟ Industrial Practical Training (IPT), which is a vital part of the Institute programmes and curricula. The IPT is recognized as the as course module and is conducted once in each NTA level. Often done after completing class modules. IPT modules caries 10 credits. The IPT module is designed to enable MIST graduates become flexible and able to meet challenges of the job market or industry and also it make them think positively towards self-employment undertakings.
